Autoupdate killed mysql so no moodle

Just done an automatic update on opensuse and now mysql is not working propery

 

I get this

rcmysql status
Checking for service MySQL: checkproc: Empty pid file /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid for /usr/sbin/mysqld
                                                                    unused
SUSEMOODLE:~ # rcmysql try-restart
checkproc: Empty pid file /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid for /usr/sbin/mysqld

                                                                    failed
SUSEMOODLE:~ # rcmysql restart
Restarting service MySQL 
Shutting down service MySQL                                          done
Updating MySQL privilege database... 
                                                                    failed

 

Which means moodle does'nt work

Error: Database connection failed.

 

It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not running properly.

 

The site administrator should also check that the database details have been correctly specified in config.php

 

Any ideas how to get mysql back up and running

Tried removing the pid file?

 

rm /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid

i can remove the file like you said

but now get

Shutting down service MySQL                                          done
Updating MySQL privilege database... 
                                                                    failed

try setting ownership of /var/lib/mysql with whatever user runs mysql on opensuse.

 

Make a copy first?
