Scheduled access to games software

We've had an issue with a lunchtime ict club where the kids are going onto flash games websites and ending up with countless trojan viruses getting onto the PCs.

 

Disabling internet access is not an option unfortunately, and now we're being asked to provide a solution where games software is available on each terminal, but only during lunch times.

 

Does anyone know of a solution where the kids will only be allowed to access the software at particular times on particular days?

use an ISA server, Block access to all websites you dont want to have access too for student accounts, and on a "game" account, block a certain number of sites and allow a few to be open that you deem ok.

Thanks for replying, but I was particularly interested to know if there's a way of scheduling software access.

 

I'd like to avoid moving into the realm of policing the internet and vetting flash games websites. Especially since you never really know which sites contain malicious content until it's on your system and AVG runs a scan...

in that case, there is a software that allows it. It is called Chronos by vision soft. We use that to "police" our internet access.

Thanks again for your reply, but i'm not talking about restricting internet access, we've got LanSchool, Websense and an ISA setup for that.

 

I'm talking about scheduling access for individual programs installed to each PC's hdd.

 

EG - Joe Bloggs can play GameX between 1pm & 1.30pm, Monday to Friday, but not at any other time.

You can use xcacls in a script to run at any time you require using windows scheduler. We ran a games club after school and allow games at lunchtime. Here's an example script:

You should be able to apply / lift filtering policies according to a schedule using websense. My firebox allows this and I use it to get more from our teachers by banning facebook etc during school hours.

A somewhat Heath Robinson solution, but was wondering whether some sort of NAS could be used for installing the games... powered through a timer that would ensure the drive was physically unavailable during lesson times?
