ufuo Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 We need to be able to create and modify MSI's. Does any one know of any other reliable tool besides the Wininstall packager professional. It seems quite expensive.
ufuo Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 LE does not have the capability to create transforms.
CyberNerd Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Swiadmle.msi - an MSI creator on the windows 2000 CD orca - MSI editor http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;257718 http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/orca_exe.asp
ajbritton Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 If you need to create so called 'response' transforms which answer the questions asked during setup, then you could try Wise Install Tailor, which looks like it's free.
ufuo Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 Thanks for all your responses. From previous tests I have encountered that the Wininstalle LE in the Windows server 2000 sometimes produces a corrupt MSI when used in a windows server 2003 environment with windows installer 3.1. Also I have tried using the install tailor with no success yet. It seems to capture the property values onto the wrong tables. I noticed this when I opend the database with the orca editor. Perhaps I am doing something wrong.......
eejit Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I use one by an Icelandic company called EMCO their package builder is pretty fab. Download a trial here: http://www.emco.is/msi_package_builder/features.html About £300 to buy after the trial, but I've found it well worth it.
