bollo318 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hi I've got the brother 9440cn printer. It supports network scanning, which I can use to scan back to a file. However I can't scan back to a OCR. I need to find some OCR software for the Control Centre to use. I don't know too much about these things or how this would work. The only support I can find on the Brother website is a faue reference to PaperPort but I'm not sure if this is the exact program I should be using or should already have, as I don't have any installs for it. Any suggestions for OCR software. Preferably free Thanks

Ric_ Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I've also used the MS Office Imaging stuff to do basic OCR.
flyinghaggis Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 The MS Office scanning works OK but does anyone know if there's any free OCR software that can detect layout formatting and pictures aswell as just text? We've currently got Textbridge 2000 but it's getting a bit long in the tooth?
Andrew_C Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I'm using Read Iris 8 Pro. This came bundled with an HP scanner (I think) and it works OK. Offers a fair guess when presented with a complex layout like the Radio Times. Can't say how it compares, it has been a long time since I used Textbridge for similar stuff.
ICT_GUY Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 SimpleOCR - freeware OCR software and royalty free OCR engine! It works very well, I have used it a fair amount and it is pretty accurate if you set your scanner up right. Oh and it is free!
