SQL Server Express 2008

Hi guys and gals

 

Am trying to play with umbraco on my Vista System but am having problems with SQL 2008

 

When trying to start the service -SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) I get the following Error

 

The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service terminated with service-specific error 17058 (0x42A2).

 

Have tried running as a seperate admin ac (created one called SQLAdmin)

 

Still no luck

 

Tried a google search to no luck =0(

 

Any ideas people??

As you probably already know from google it looks like an account security/permissions issue. Have you played with changing the account, ie. domain account/local etc? Have you checked permission settings?

 

Im a novice at sql so apologies if this is obvious stuff, Ive just started getting acquainted with sql2008 while installing mylittlehelpdesk...

Hi yeah have tried that, hence creating the new SQLAdmin account with full admin rights etc

 

Is just a complete heaqd scratcher - even after a beer (Gentleman Jack - Asda Extra Special Real Ale very very nice £1.50 a bottle or 3 for £4)

I know some people who have had this problem, and its because another programme is using the port SQL is using.

 

I have also come accross where anti virus software is blocking the port and/or software itself, If you have McAfee or similar - disable it and see if you get the same error. If not that - there is something wrong with your network library or conflict with some other software that "steals" network resources required for SQL Server to accept connections.

How are you changing the SQL service account? If you do it in the services MMC then the account will get "log on as a service" right but won't get added to the security group called something like SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$COMPUTERNAME$SQLEXPRESS (probably "2008" for SQL 2008)

 

If you change the account in SQL Server config manager then it makes the group changes.

Using the First/Last Counter and First/Last Help values from the SQL Server Service\Performance Key do the values align properly with the TITLES database? If not unlodctr / lodctr will be compulsory to correct the Titles database and Performance key values. 642-642
