Javascript Broken BBC ReviseWise site

Hi

 

Has anybody experienced Javascript breaking on the BBC revisewise site, it seems to be an issue with IE7 and Firefox.

 

I cannot view the interactive content. An example URL is

 

BBC - Schools - KS2 Bitesize Revision - Science

 

All I get is the page without the content and this javascript error from the error console.

 

bbcjs.plugins.Flashmovie is null or not an object.

 

This happens on XP and Vista, but first showed up in Vista, I have tried other sites such as BBC history and I get the same.

 

Has anybody got any ideas what this could be, a bad implementation of Javascript in IE7?? Firefox doesnt work as well though, I am out of ideas.

Firefox 3.0.6 here and no problemss, also still using IE6 and no problems either.

Either try resetting IE7 to defaults - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset

 

Or

 

Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage add-ons. Is Java enabled here? If it isn't, enable it then close and re-open IE7.

No luck either way, this is very very odd. It was working fine not so long ago...

 

I suppose I could try a Java update...

What version of flash player are you running as the multimedia is a flash object...

Yes, but its never been a problem before. Mind you our LEA has just changed ISPs not related I suppose?

It could be related and it may be worth asking your LA. The site works for me at home and the fact you've reset IE7 to defaults, I can't see what else (other than the proxy) what the problem could be.

I have been seeing this problem at a few locations for the last couple of weeks. Where it is happening, it happens to the whole school (domain). Schools are using the same proxy server and group policies as some that are working fine.

It seems to be okay now. I think it is no co-incidence that our LEA has changed ISPs over last weekend.

 

It has also broken iPlayer it now thinks we are outside of the UK!

My LEA getting annoyed

had a problem like that a while back when I used to work at a school and it was just a case of updating shockwave and flash, java etc and then after resetting IE 7 it seemed to work fine - a good test would be to right click on the IE 7 icon and make it startup with no plugins and see what happens.

You're right, icedearth, it has started to work. It wasn't working yesterday, 29/1 was the first call I had logged. I emailed BBC and RM, who have our upstream proxy and filtering, last week without any joy. Someone has done something. I'll wait an hour or two before I tell any users in case that someone undoes something.
