Manage multiple accounts in Zimbra

Hi All,

I think I am getting close to binning our current LA provided email for Zimbra.

 

However I am having problems managing the accounts as follows.

 

I want to stop students seeing the staff email accounts in the GAL, I can do this by editing a single account and then unticking the "Global address list" box in the features tab. I cannot see how I can do this for a group of users at once. I'd hate to have to do this to each student account as it would take a looooong time.

 

Can anyone suggest how I can get round this?

here we encourage student-teacher electronic comms, but a search of the Zimbra forums suggests setting up a different COS for staff and students and manipulating the default COS settings:

Revelant [zimbraAttribute] values:

zimbraFeatureGalAutoCompleteEnabled

zimbraFeatureGalEnabled

zimbraPrefGalAutoCompleteEnabled

zimbraPrefGalSearchEnabled

 

If you haven't configured additional COS's put 'default' inplace of [cosName].

 

Thus you could have a COS for 'employees' that still can search the GAL, while 'members' COS wouldn't be able to.

Just for future info:

On individual domains, by default zimbraGalInternalSearchBase & zimbraGalSyncInternalSearchBase are set to DOMAIN. So if you're using multiple domains and still want to leave the GAL enabled, people can only search within their domain. (You can let a domain look across all domains for the GAL by setting that to ROOT. Or lookup in domain and sub.domains by setting that to SUBDOMAINS. If you're using external LDAP/AD auth that's zimbraGalLdapSearchBase & zimbraGalSyncLdapSearchBase.)
