I installed dansguardian on the box mentioned in previous of my posts. there seems to be something wrong as when restart DG or boot it gets stuck with a clamav warning and nothing happens for ages...basically cant book properly now. is there some minimal way of booting i can get in and disable clamav or remove DG??

cheers

you're right that's thing I was looking for. I remember I've been there before but couldnt remember how. "single user" just sounds so unlike that lol. cheers

It's called single user because it will only allow a single user to log in: root. The init levels are as follows:

0: halt

1: single-user

2: sing-user with networking, usually

3: multi-user (normal console level)

4/5: multi-user (graphical level)

6: reset

So a Q&D way to restart is to say (as root): telinit 6.

DansG installed via package, or ./configure && make && make install?

There is a bug lurking in the nether regarding older versions of Dansguardian and newer versions of ClamAV.

I resolved this by configuring and installing DansGuardian from source.

Than moved toward a different solution: SourceForge.net: DansGuardian Anti-Virus plugin

Could you post your ClamAV .conf settings and DG settings regarding ClamAV please?

compiling the src is more trouble than its worth, mainly cos i have no dev utils, well i've installed what I can find out I should (devscripts build-essential fakeroot) but still get errors. cant afford to be massively sidetracked figuring out how to make compile work before i figure out how to make the application work. :(
