Hi, I installed exchange a while back and want to get rid of it, when i try to uninstall it its saying a user has a mail box etc etc there isnt any user with a mail box created im not sure how to get it off any ideas?

Will the Admin account exist even with no other mailboxes?

Were you actively using Exchange or just playing with it? Due to the way Exchange ties in with your AD you should never, ever install it onto a live network unless you intend to use it! I would suggest a look ver at msexchange.org to better your chances of a solution, but you can never just 'uninstall' Exchange without taking a few steps first.

Oh No steven! Dos box has basically answered your question, take it that free mail server you was using didnt get on with you then

You can find the mailboxes which are left over in a couple of ways - I posted this about a year ago some links for info on how you can do this.

 

The problem with finding mailboxes is that Exchange System Manager only shows you mailboxes which have been used; Active Directory shows all users who are mailbox enabled even if they've never been used and this is what the Exchange setup is checking.

 

If you don't have too many users then find all of them, select them, right click and use Exchange Tasks to remove all Exchange attributes
