dvd rom

Strange problem on a newish pc today, it's dvd rom is only being recognised as a cd rom, when I go into properties and hardware it's showing as a DVF drive. I've uninstalled and let windows find it (and in safe mode) to no avail. It's region strangely is showing as 5 and even as administrator it won't let me change it to 2. The other pc s that we had at the same time (identical) don't designate a region. Any ideas?
