danrhodes Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Hi, Im trying to implement a Smoothwall Box at home. I have Sky Broadband Wireless Router. I have a dual NIC box, one RED NIC and one GREEN NIC. The RED NIC is plugged into my Router and has a static address assigned 192.168.0.10, the router address is 192.168.0.1. The GREEN NIC is plugged into my switch and also has a static address assigned 192.168.0.11, both IP's are on the 255.255.255.0 Subnet. I can access the Smoothwall Box from the web browser. But if I try to access the internet through smoothwall I get errors. I have put the correct proxy settings into FireFox being 192.168.0.11:800 Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on what might be going wrong as it puzzles me!! D
FN-GM Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Turn on the proxy server as transparent on the smoothwall box. Also have you setup the DNS to point to the smoothwall box? Can you ping outside address from the smoothwall interface? Z

FN-GM Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I would give red and green sifferent ranges if i was you. Why have you pointed it to your switch? you dont need to ping form the shell you can do it from the interface as well. Z
tom_newton Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 You need different networks on green and red. Either: get the sky box to pass through its public IP (this would be best) or just use 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 on Green. You can't use the same net both sides. HTH Tom 1

OutToLunch Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Not sure that you can get the Sky router into half bridge/full bridge mode (to pass the public IP back to the red interface) - if it's the same one that I have, it's a rebranded Netgear. You can use the Netgear firmware recovery tool to flash the original firmware back onto it and dump your ADSL username/password etc, this gives you a bit more control - I think the DG834T has half bridge. May not work very well though, everything I've tried half bridge on has ended up playing silly buggers after working ok for a while - we ended up getting a couple of Linksys ADSL modems here that do the job very nicely.

OutToLunch Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Tom - I'm sure it's an option on the stock and modded firmwares of the 834, but the Sky one has very limited options. I don't have Sky myself but tried to talk a friend through setting up an alternative router with them and there seemed to be next to no options for all the important bits. I have an ex Sky router but can't remember what the menus looked like before I flashed it back to stock.

Turns out it was due to me being on the same range. Changed the Green and my Ip and it works fine now. So guna sit back and have a few beers now with the telly! D

danrhodes Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 Hi Tom, On Network Connection I now have an icon from PNP that says internet connection, it used to report 7.6mbps now its reporting 10mbps, could this be a bug? D
