vista login failed :-S

my new work machine is pre-installed with vista....thought i'd have a go with that.....got it working so I can logon with a local account and it says im connected to the domain, although it seems to have done that itself!

 

I'm trying to logon with a domain account, I've found out i need to do andy@... as my login name trouble is whenever I log off, there's nowhere to type in my username it just comes up with my local account pre-selected awaiting password :-S

 

in xp there was an option to get rid of simple login screens, I expect there's one around somewhere but it doesnt seem to be in the control panel/user section.....

You say it has been automatically joined to the domain - are you sure? The simple login screens disappear in Vista when you join to a domain and you get the standard 2-box login with the domain name below it.

 

I suggest removing it from the domain it claims to be connected to (put it into a Workgroup), reboot, and then rejoin it.

when on a domain it should default to the domain.

 

if you domain user acount is andy and you have a local account called andy it will default locally. If you get rid of the local account that is called the same as the network one it will sort it.

 

also you can put Domain\username in the username feild.

when i went through the mini setup, I think I told it to join the domain. I did create the first account the same as my domain account name...I changed the account name to admin...in network and sharing centre, in connect to a network, it says this computer is connected to

 

I found merge or delete network location

status: in use

type:managed

but delete is grayed out

 

never mind....it'll have to remain a mystery, nm said he wants xp on it and not me wasting time figuring out how to use vista. fair point really.

To logon as a local account when joined to a domain just use computername\username

kind of hard when there wasnt a username field.
