Hightower Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I know this sounds very cheeky but I'm going to ask it anyways. I'm currently working on a project - a CMS system for a football team. This is mainly because we currently use Joomla and it's a bit of a pain, so I'm working on something that will do everything an (amateur) football club could possibly want the site to do. I have setup basic CSS using a template I found but it looks very basic, and I'm not very good at thinking up design templates. Would anybody be willing to write a sexy CSS file that will be released as the default template? Full recognition will be given Cheeky but worth a try
kmount Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Writing a CMS from scratch is a bit of a big job if it's only for a single punter. Maybe something like Wordpress or a fairly customisable blog would be appropriate enough? Failing that, I don't know what else to suggest if you're writing your own nothing out of the box will fit.
danIT Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I wouldnt mind taking a look, I made the edugeek moodle themes and have a bit of web design experience.

It's not a full on Joomla kind of CMS - just a one that offers something useful to football teams. A few local teams have mentioned it to me (as I already have a website for our team) so I said I'd take a look. I know there's various packages out there such as JoomLeague but these are way to complex, especially for a novice user. The other reason I am doing it is to improve my knowledge of PHP and MySQL. I don't think there's any better way to learn than having a real life website to create. @DanIT - I'll zip up a couple of the pages and the current CSS and send you a link later on today. Cheers
Pashers Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Have a search for css templates. Here's a pretty good website just for reference on what you can do with css. I know it's not exactly what your looking for but I still like the site css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design
Hightower Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 I've looked and looked and managed to find a one with a 3 column layout but I wanted something a little more bespoke (picky I know). I know how to write the CSS and things like that, I just don't have an aesthetically worked design brain if that makes sense.
Pashers Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Could you get the pupils to design it on a piece of paper? Turn it into a competition or something. Saves you designing it ;-) Or do what I usually do, just start with a basic layout adding the information. Then start thinking of a colour scheme you want to use. ColorSchemer Gallery | Website-ready color schemes for ColorSchemer With the colour scheme start designing the menu, keep it simple and don't over 'crowd' the page. Maybe for the logo have some one kicking a football with the text on the left, right or infront of the image. It's the worst part starting off, I never know how to design the site LOL.

Thanks - don't want kids to design it as it's a personal project. Like I say, I have a basic CSS at the minute and it's doing a job - but I want something 'sexy' and 'eye-catching'. If nobody wants to take a look then I will look at it myself - but I just thought there were people on here who could knock something up in minutes and I was just testing the water to see if anybody would be interested.
