Hi All,

Just thought this may be of interest but most will probably know about it.

Have just found out from our Admin manager that when she runs the school census report it comes up empty and after investigation I have found out that it needs Dot Net framework 2 plus SP1 to run.

I had read all the documentation but I didn't see anything pointing to this so I just thought if anyone is having the same problems than this is the solution.

there is a known issue regarding this that may affect the ability to create the census reports.

 

KB84458 - Cannot produce Summary report, file is 0 bytes - Spring Census 2009

 

Please upgrade all affected workstations to the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, Service Pack 1

 

 

This can be done by running Windows Update or Microsoft Update from the workstation:

 

 

Start | Microsoft Update | Custom

Start | Windows Update | Custom

Go to:

 

 

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for the file, download it and then install

 

 

If you are still experiencing issues once the above steps have been followed, please check whether you have the .NET compact framework installed , if so please uninstall and this resolve the issue.

generally looks good but for this census issue I would concentrate on just downloading the service pack, difference of 40ish mb against 346mb

 

Equally we have been assured again and again that only .net framework 2 will be required for SIMS .net.

run the SIMSInfrastructureSetup that came with the august installable release. that contains .net 3.5 which comprises both 2.0 sp1 and 3.0 sp1.

Thats interesting as the last info we had was that all though sims only uses .net2 we should all put .net3 on to be ready & that it upgrades .net2. That was from our County suppliers but it sounded like it had come from Capita.

.net frameworks are not upgradable.

 

There are distinct differences between each of the frameworks and it is possible to have 1,2,and 3 all on one machine with different packages using different framework levels.

I know for a fact Birmingham LA have recommended .NET Framework 3.0 to be installed too. It will happen at some point. .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 contains .NET 2.0 SP2 and .NET 3.0 SP2.

 

Downloading the Logistix Microsoft .NET Framework Pack does this all for you! It may be 300 odd megabytes, but it saves a lot of time.
