As no standards have been set and with the software vendors looking at lining their pockets it is little wonder then that schools have used their VTLEs as a dumping ground for files which have been little used.

Teaching staff are very reluctant to change and this is the crux of the matter, as the teachers are the main users of these environments, they have to be on board big time to make it work to it's full potential.

Most of the colleges have indeed taken a lead in the use of VTLEs but then they have a wider audience and a more diverse user base than secondary schools who are sometimes tied by the lack of enthusiasm borne by the teaching staff who lack vision in some cases as they are glued to their curriculum.

It's no ones fault as i have said no standards have been set.
