Can you install an msi from a gpo on CC3?

I'm having trouble with a program called spex+ at the moment.

It comes via download as an msi package but I can't install and run from a public folder and it doesn't seem to work when turning it into a cc3 package.

I was going to just install it via gpo but somebody here told me that it won't work as cc3 wilkl have it's wicked way with it and screw it up!

 

Any ideas folks?

I have had trouble in the past trying to use GPOs with CC3, however I seem to remember getting around it be enforcing loopback processing and assigning it to the computers rather than the users.

Are you running this as the Demo or full version.

 

If your running as Demo then theres a RM tool called appication wizard which allows you to import the MSI straight into the packages without trying to repackage it.

 

If its the full version then the software house do provide a version for CC3 package but I am sure its not that hard to repackage it

I'd advise against running appinstalls via GPO on a CC3 network and as RedBottom has said AppWiz can take the GPO and CC3 it for you, or you can use the "native" MSI if you want to.

 

I've not used the software myself so can't comment specifically.

If the file already comes as an MSI try creating the folder structure for it in the applications directory. See how the other packages are nested.

You dont need to create a package for a program if its already an MSI. Just insert the MSI and ini file in the folder update the package list and test the application on a workstation.
