hi all.

 

i have got a piece of software that i want to install via group policy. the problem is that with the local install i have to insert the product key. How can i overcome this problem when im not going to be sat in front of the computer?

Hi ..

 

I normally use Winstall LE (Its free)

 

You can do a scan of your hard drive ... then install the software (Including the key) ... then do a rescan and it will create an MSI for you with all of the changes that you did during your install (including the key !!!) ...

You can then distribute the MSI via a GPO ...

Find out from the software authors if you can create an MSI transform to include the product key, then apply this as you deploy.

 

I'm never a great fan of capture software, it gets messy very quickly.

thanks for the replies,

 

i think i have sorted it. The software in question is called 'Communicate: In Print'

 

After reading info on the net, i have discovered that i need to do an administrative install. (run setup.exe /a). this will create an MSI with the product key registered.

 

I too am not a fan of packaging software. too many things can go wrong.
