Windows Update Error

Hi,

A few of my machines have errors on WSUS.

I have recently installed a machine with Win XP. It appears in WSUS, and according to the WindowsUpdate.log file, its found the updates.

However, it doesnt show the icon in the corner.

Below is a section from the log file. There are some errors about the proxy, but it connects to main internet sits fine.

On the starting page of WSUS 3.0, it displays various pie charts, but also notifies of any files remaining to be downloaded. The yellow Windows Update icon won't appear on a workstation if the updates (files) aren't available on your WSUS server.

 

It sounds as though WSUS has a list of updates, but is still yet to download all the files. On a new WSUS setup, this can take days and days depending on what exactly you specified and for what applications.

As Michael says... with new kit, I usually resort to manual Windows update - it's quicker (even if it does take 4 attempts to get everything)! WSUS takes over from there

Yes, I had forgotten about that. I have had new kit to play with so infrequently that I haven't had to do anything since July and even then it was only one machine!
