SSFC Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Just wondering if there is such a thing as a USB device that can be plugged into any device (e.g. interactive whiteboard) then send the signal wirelessly to dongle plugged into a pc. Basically the same as a wireless mouse but can be used for any USB device?

K.C.Leblanc Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 If it's a smartboard, you can get a bluetooth module for them. However they're about £160. http://downloads.smarttech.com/media/products/sb6/specs/pdf/english/specswc6.pdf Insight UK - SMART WC6-UK Wireless Bluetooth Connection for S...
SSFC Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 No its a Promethean. Good to see they do them, but dont think we have the budget
alexwood Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I work for Promethean, could you let me know why you want to do it, whether it is just you or a whole school initiative and I will try and help? Thanks Alex
SSFC Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 We are getting a new build and are currently designing the room layout and equipment. Currently we have several interactive whiteboards but when the teachers desk is directly in front of the board we have to use a cable protector floor mat to run the cable to the board (along with the wires for the speakers, projector etc). In the new build we are hoping to have a pole with power, data etc to eliminate the need for the cables to be trailed over the floor, however the distance to the board would be quite long and I was worried that the signal would be lost due to the cable length. I know there are signal repeaters that would work but was wondering if a wireless solution would be easier?
RabbieBurns Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 we dont have prometheans but our teachers desks are a good 6-7ft from the smartboard, the cables all go up a pole, through the roof cavity, and down to the board. All with no problems.
garthsmojo Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 A pair of BL-554 USB BLUETOOTH ADAPTORS will do the job. Their between £85-£99 retail each, but i've looked on ebay and you can pick them up for £15.00 each.
NikChillin Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I work for Promethean, could you let me know why you want to do it, whether it is just you or a whole school initiative and I will try and help? Aha! We have just purchased a new Promethean board with a usb wireless stick due to the location of the desk. I tried to set up the calibration but it goes through the motions and then will not connect. The USB device is happy and the icon on the taskbar shows connected but we can not get the calibration set up or any communication between them. ANY help would be appreciated. Cheers Nik
NikChillin Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 :oFixed it! I was using the grey pen and I should have been using the black one! Didn't realise there werre two sets!
