Sims Domain Integration

Hi Everyone,

 

This is my first post and hope you can help. We use Sims here and we have a Windows 2003 AD domain.

 

What I would like to know is, is there a way to link Sims to AD and use normal AD user accounts and passwords for Sims instead of having two seperate user accounts?

If you look in System Manager then you should find a magnifying glass next to user names. Putting the AD account details in there will allow the account to use trusted logon. You then need to edit the connect.ini file.There's full details about it around the internet in various places. Note though that trusted logon won't get users to enter their AD username and password to log in to SIMS, it'll simply allow them to log straight in once they're logged on to windows.

I did see the magnifying glass and selected a domain user account however as you described Sims would not use the account details as logon credentials. What do you mean by a trusted account and what extra functionality do they give?

Basically it means, once the staff have logged into the computer, they can then just open SIMS and be straight in, so there's no security barrier if they leave their computer unattended.

We enforce a 10minute screen saver here now SIMS is in classrooms.

Turning on trusted logins in the connect.ini and adding the credentials basically implements single sign on. When the users log into Windows, they are then automatically logged into SIMS .net when they go to open it.
