Mr.Ben Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) Much to annoyance the Java 1.6.10 update installs a new service, jqs.exe. This is annoying because: a) It is yet another preload service is consumes what seems to be unnecessary resources on my poor old desktops. b) When trying to uninstall the jqs.exe service does not terminate itself, this is also the case when updating to version 1.6.11, so installs fail, a lovely popup annoys my users etc...... It's pretty easy to disable, much like the adobe 'Speed Launcher' (one of the reasons I use Foxit instead now), but just beware as it is an annoyance! Cheers Sun! Edit: Just to note, I'm installing silently from the MSI package! Edited December 8, 2008 by Mr. Ben A bit more information! 2
Oops_my_bad Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Something else to keep my eyes open for can you not disable this unwanted service via group policy without side effects??
Mr.Ben Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 It seems so - at least so far so good! - It's just more annoying that I didn't notice it! I've also popped it into the list of applications I don't want to run in the User\System Gpo.
