adamf Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 All of a sudden since Wednesday last week windows has decided that a small handful or our network printers are no longer installed on the server. It's so far only happened with 2 or 3 of our Kyoceras - 3 different models but not all of the printers that are the same model (if that makes sense). The exact error I get is: "The Kyocera FS-2000DN KX printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properities will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?" The quick and easy fix for this is to re-install the driver as all the file are still present in windows, however this only seems to last for a day and the message comes back. At the same time, I can still view the standard windows properities, but when I click print test page explorer.exe crashes Any ideas?
adamf Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 No it's not and in any case I can still ping the printer.
Michael Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Tried stopping and starting the spooler service? Open up a command prompt: net stop spooler then net start spooler
contink Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Ok... all else I can think of is a virus or malware scanner removing a couple of key files or malicious intent from an end user "cleaning" things off certain workstations.
adamf Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 I was thinking a virus also but we've run a full virus scan and found nothing.
contink Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I was thinking a virus also but we've run a full virus scan and found nothing. Not sure if you caught it but I was meaning a false positive. Unlikely but possible.
Michael Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Are the drivers signed? From memory I think Kyocera do a full and basic driver. Their drivers weren't the best and had problems with VIA chipsets (when I had the pleasure working with Kyocera devices).
