Its easy enough, you just have to make sure Dansguardian is running and it will then be able to start.

Word of caution, if you're using it to scan emails it can fall over if an update fails and it then loses all email content for any emails it scans. As a rule I'd recommend disabling that aspect of it.

Thanks, i cant find anything in the GUI to turn it on.

Do you realise you dont turn it on as such, not directly anyway. You need to enable virus scanning in Dansguardian/HavP?/email/etc, and it will turn on by itself (or maybe you can turn it on then, click on the shield). Unless something is using it it will remain inactive

It can be abit of a pain i know, its one of the reason im using Endian instead. Smoothwall express 3 has never been as complete or stable as 2 imho, far too much initial work to get the system i want anyway.

I seem to remember something about clamAV not updating properly aswell, cant remember the full details but you needed to edit the cron job to make the update process output to "null" or else it would fail. Or something along those lines. Check the forums, ive found them to be really helpful.

OK.. done and checked... it seems AV in Express3 is only on Pop3 email. IT should be on automatically, though I don't have a pop account to hand to test the theory :)
