YHGfL Downtime

Did anyone else experience a lengthy spell of down time of their internet connection (YHGfL) today?

 

We had no internet connection from 5.15am until 12:45pm

 

Had to tell staff it was due to snow on the line

We had problems as well although it was from sometime in the moring before I arrived untill about 11.00am. Might inquire after those alternative proxy settings though, as that would be really handy.

The explanation I was given was that the grid had load balancing issues. All or most of the connections were going via one or two servers resulting in them falling over. One solution did work for a time but then failed again. I do have an 'adult' proxy setting but didn't think to try it:doh:

 

YHGfL also had problems last week with regard to their web hosting server being hacked. Took some time to resolve that one as well.

They have two load balancers, both decided they were masters which as you can imagine caused issues, a new proxy was released with the address of newproxy.yhgfl.net.

 

The BT address secondaryproxy.bty-h.org.uk that normally resolves to proxy.yhgfl.net was stuck on resolving to that address, and not the new address newproxy.yhgfl.net.

 

That is the reason they were asking people to flush their DNS in their proxies, to update the address that secondayproxy.bty-h.org.uk resolved to.

 

Good old YHGFL.
