Auto log off

Hi all...

 

I don't know if anyone else has this trouble in there systems.

We currently have pupils that have worked out if they pull the network lead out of the back of the computer then we can't see there screens. I read somewhere that there is a way to auto log off the computer if there is a loss in network connectivity.

 

My question to you wise wise people... is how do you do it?

Here we use Impero. If they pull the plug a big black screen comes down telling them to put it back in. But we have found it can sometimes be more of a hinderince ie. Network outages or laptop get locked down before they can connect to the wireless.

 

Surely though, they can't actually do anything with no network anyway?

Been discused many many times. Do a search, but in short there are GPOs which solve the problem.

Yup indeed do a search. But to answer your question if they pull out the network cable the gpos are not applied. In some cases I have heard that this gives them local admin rights.

I wrote a lil app which will auto force a logoff in 10 seconds when this happens.

 

Warning tho... there isnt a way at the moment to override it once it starts it's countdown! (Aka, on wireless laptops, if they drop the signal but then get it back... it'll still logoff).

 

Runs in the background etc, so if they have access to task manager, they could bypass it.

If u have mandatory profiles, convert them to super mandatory profiles and then they cant pull the lead out.

 

It seems they have logged on when they take out the cable.

 

They can't bypass group polices here, make a script to detect if the settings have been applied.
