We have a Toshiba Tecra A3's that were bought just over 3 years ago under the LFT scheme (before I got here), and it is having hardware issues now, so I am hoping someone can give me some advice as to either how to repair it, or whether I should just ebay 'spares and repairs' it.

The issue appears to be a) a faulty keyboard (this is confirmed that it is actually the keyboard, as it is from a machine we swapped it out of to get that one working). On top of this, a confirmed working keyboard still doesn't work - which indicates the motherboard is also a problem.

So, how can I repair this cheaply, without having to send it to XMA and pay almost as much as the laptop cost originally for the repair?

Cheers in advance.

From what you've described sounds like the keyboard controller chip is dead?

Without a replacement and access to an smt rework station you probably aren't going to be able to replace it.
