FN-GM Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Lycos Europe outlines liquidation plans - Yahoo! News UK
localzuk Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) A shame, but as with Woolworths - they didn't diversify. Yahoo survived Google's domination of the search market by striking deals with companies like BT, by offering good services like Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Mail, and by buying start-ups like Flickr. Lycos don't seem to have changed at all since they started - other than their purchases, many years ago, of Angelfire, Tripod.com and a few others. They even sold off viable and potentially company saving assets such as their finance wing, and their dating wing! Technology moves so quickly, and they didn't move quick enough to compete.
