Hi All

I have a 3Com superstack 3 4900 switch. I need another fibre patch lead. Does anyone know what these are called and where I can get one. I've asked 3Com and they wouldn't tell me unless it was registered.

Registered the school and the switch and filled out umpteen different forms but still can't track down a name or part number. Cable a bit strange, it starts of as to cables at the patch panel end and goes into one plug the end that goes into the switch.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

If it's a fibre patch lead you are after then there must be 2 connectors on the switch end too it just may not look like it.

Can you take some pictures?

Are the connectors on the patch round or square?

You also need to know the type of fibre required but that should be printed on the side of the existing cable.

I'd have said SX Fibre from a quick google on the part code.

Have a nose [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SC_connector]here[/ame] and see if any look right.

I can confirm that the 4900 is MT-RJ

You also need to check the diameter of the cable, it's most likely either 162.5/125 or 50/125 multimode. The cable that comes out of the back of the patch-panel will have it written on it.
