Stop pupils hiding documents

Is there a way to stop kids from hiding their folders and files? Kids seem to think it is funny to hide other kids work, by selecting all the folders, right clicking, selecting properties and tick hidden. We need to allow the context menu so disabling right click is out of the question.

 

Can anyone help?

Firstly, how are the kids getting into other kids personal storage areas?

 

Secondly, disabling right-click for pupils using GPO solves a huge number of problems.

We have the following policies set under User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Desktop:

 

- Remove Properties from the Computer Icon context menu

- Remove Properties from the Documents Icon context menu

- Remove Properties from the Recycle Bin Icon context menu

 

We also remove the context menu for Windows Explorer.

 

That is the best that I can think of!

 

When a student user clicks 'File' then 'Properties' on our student interface it does nothing.

In samba we set "store dos attributes = no" to prevent file hiding.

Also we remove set students with "nt acl support = no" this removes the 'permissions' tab from students view in right click.

You can set the advanced security permissions to deny writing of attributes to files and folders, this way if they try and change the read-only or hidden boxes, it will just come up with an access denied message.

 

Unfortunitely this would most likely have to be done manually for each students share. You may be able to create an XCACLS script to do it for you, but I'm not sure about this.

Just use the Attrib command in log on/off scripts.

Students need to learn not to touch other peoples stuff.

 

Simple solution, inform then disciple.
