Having problems with some access databases freezing machines up when users try to load them. We are running xp machines and server 2003, mandatory profiles for users.

e.g. a user has a database that he tries to load from his home folder or shared area- it freezes the machine - will eventually let you end the unresponsive program (access 2003). The same user can access other databases ok. Yet another user can load this same database from the shared area ok. Have tried from other test accounts and other machines - it freezes. Tried creating a new account by copying from the working user and accessing but no joy. It loads on my admin machine - tried exporting all the tables and reports into another database - freezes when user opens it.

Database contains tables, reports etc but no macros.

Another database on the shared causing similar problems - will sometimes open ok - but sometimes will freeze up machine.

Nothing in event viewer - struggling to find anything on google.

Anyone any ideas? Driving me nuts

thanks mark

Hi,

a silly solution - machines were running on 512MB ram including some shared video - 3 x IT suites with this config - all bought before I started a few months ago. Soon as put 1GB memory in access loads in 4 secs rather than 1 min 30 secs!

Posted in case any one else runs across same problem.
