Hi all

Having major issues with are main windows server this morning. I started with SIMS failing and no one being able to log on to SIMS - getting a connection error Reason 3 (one of those useful SIMS error messages!:p) after a bit of research here on EduGeek and elsewhere on the internet, found a way to get them back on, but still none the wiser what was the cause

The result was to change/add a line or two to the Connect ini file. I went to the server room to check on the server and found a Virus alert on the screen!! The virus had been deleted. I restarted the server and installed some updates that had been waiting and everything was fine.

Anyway.... Since then the staff cannot get on the internet or print to the network printers. I've restarted the print services and checked proxy settings but still no luck. And can get on the internet directly from the server.

We have a Apple Mac network here too (completely separate network) and all those users can connect to the internet fine and print to the same network printers that the windows users can't.

i'm a bit stumped, anyone got any ideas?

Andrew

PS - i won't make any remarks about windows v macs ;)

Spookily I had almost the same thing here this morning  Sophos had found a virus in the SIMS drive (just an anoying Autorun thingy that it dealt with ok, but I scanned anyway) and no web access and no teacher network drives... All seems ok now, having changed the network card in the ISA server and powered down and up again the central network cabinet to stop a switch that I suspect was jabbering... but it's all a bit odd :drunken_smilie:

The virus was also in the SIMS drive:eek: staff home drives seem ok though

Our staff drives just happen to be hosted on the ISA server (as I needed space in a hurry and it had loads :)) which coincidently (or due to the actions of He-who-must-not-be-named and subsequently covered up by the ministry) blew it's network card over the weekend:confused: and all this at the same time as a managed switch goes bananas???

This afternoon I'm going to test the card to see if it is indeed dead - it might have been the jabbering that made it appear that way I suppose:confused:

Sophos should be kept out of the SIMS areas, Capita's recommendation. Not sure if they've "fixed" it. Capita does everything Microsoft recommend, why Sophos has errors but no other AV doesn't I have no idea.

Does sound like you have a firewall-like problem.

Hey Guys just wanted to ask a question do you have Sophos installed with Application blocking enable Sophos might be seen it as a threat

We don't have sophos, we use Mcafee
