Survey reveals school IT departments are understaffed, impeding technology integration

Too much stuff; too few staff: Nearly three out of four school leaders say they don't have enough IT staff to support their needs effectively, according to an eSchool News survey.

 

Information technology (IT) staffing shortages are keeping many schools from realizing the full benefits of technology inside and outside the classroom, an eSchool News survey reveals.

 

Conducted in partnership with SchoolDude Inc., a provider of operations management solutions for schools and colleges, the survey of some 1,000 school and district leaders and IT administrators paints a stark picture of the barriers that tech-support challenges pose to integrating technology effectively in education.......

Interesting, I always assumed America would be way ahead of us in education IT provision............

Bodes well for me, the wife is from the US and we're planning to emigrate in a few years.

Some of our staff went on an exchange programme to Alabama a few years back and toured some of their local schools.

 

They were amazed by the lack of ICT that the schools they visited had. They were also pretty shocked by the policies concerning SEN too but that's another story!

Certain areas we are same and then we are way ahead in others.

 

UMPCs as a rule we are equal as usa have really took these on board to fill one-to-one computer agenda.

 

But other areas they suffer lacking of funding unlike in UK where we have had quite few years of good funding in ICT.

Just read it, thanks for sharing! I'm in California right now! It does share similarities with the UK, we're under staffed at a school in Norfolk and would like to have more time improving speeds etc.

interesting article, we always feel like we are firefighting rather than planning ahead and implementing new technology as much as we'd like to!
