MS Photo print wizard...ARGH!!

i've got a headache from sorting out a bunch of stupid fiddley problems, but this one is making it worse.

 

I've just recently created a new ghost image and installed it on a pc, as this is my first image i've actually created im starting to find a few minor glitches but so far not bad.

 

A teacher has just plugged a camera into the PC and the usual XP's "what do you want to do with this?" wizard opens, now usually M$ nice and simple photo print wizard is on there, but not this time. The teachers are quite fond of it because its a quicker way for them to print a load of images.

 

The only M$ changes i made was adding SP3 and possibly upgrading to Office 2K3.

 

Have i missed something?

ooh, this is a bit old...

 

Tried the reg thingy, didnt work .

 

It's odd, if the images are already on the hard drive the print pictures option is available, but when you attach a camera and XP does its "what do ya wanna do" bit the option isnt there...

Are they using a different camera to previously?

 

For me, if the camera is one that's just recognised as a USB stick - ie you just get a new drive letter than jumps straight into the root of the memory card, with no images in and the usual DCIM folder etc you don't get the wizard appearing.

 

If it's one that registers with the Scanner and Camera service when connected, you get the wizard.

 

You can check this by running wiaacmgr.exe with the camera connected - on my machine, this shows

 

"Scanner and Camera Wizard

---------------------------

The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera.

 

Please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the computer. If the computer still cannot detect the device, open Control Panel, click Scanners and Cameras, and then click Add Device."

 

with one of our Benq cameras switched on and connected by USB, visible in My Computer as a drive letter.

 

If you're still on the same camera, maybe someone has fiddled and switched it into a vanilla USB Storage Device mode from the camera's initial settings.

 

What does work is selecting the files in Explorer from the USB drive, right clicking and choosing Print - this then launches the printing wizard with the selected files available.
