WSUS using over 1GB RAM

I have had WSUS running on one of our servers for a while now, but within the last few weeks it has been showing the SQLSERV process as using over 1GB RAM. It runs no other SQL Server, so it must be WSUS. The server is the Domain Controller and DNS/DHCP.

 

It's not a massive problem, the server has 4GB to use, just want to know why it uses so much and if I can stop it.

 

I don't have office updates enabled. The network has around 150 computers.

SQL server is designed to use as much RAM as available; I think the "Windows internal database" installed by WSUS probably limits at a max of 1Gb.

 

It shouldn't be a problem - Windows processes in general are designed to share memory and use it all if possible. It's almost more worrying to find a busy machine with 4Gb of RAM showing that most of it is unused; it ought to be used for things like caching!

Which version of WSUS btw? Are you on the latest? If you are, run the DB cleanup wizard. That'll help.

1GB of memory isn't an unrealistic amount for WSUS to use. If you deploy service packs, this can contribute to additional server load. As a general rule I don't. I deploy service packs on new images only.
