contink Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Subversion 1.9.1 with Apache 2.4.x cd /home/downloads/svn wget http://subversion.tigris.org/downloads/subversion-1.9.1.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.9.1.tar.gz cd subversion-1.9.1 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/local/apache/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/home/cpeasyapache/src/httpd-2.4/srclib/apr-util make clean make make install The apache pre-main config is as recently LoadModule dav_svn_module /usr/local/libexec/mod_dav_svn.so LoadModule authz_svn_module /usr/local/libexec/mod_authz_svn.so
contink Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Couple of additional notes... If you need to switch your repository across to using an SSL connection rather than standard http you can do this by: 1. Installing a self signed cert for the domain you're using for your repository ref: https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/security/ssl/installing-a-self-signed-ssl-certificate (assuming you haven't gone out and registered a signed one that is) 2. Copying your custom.conf from the std to ssl.. cp /etc/httpd/conf/userdata/std/2_4/user/www.userdom.co.uk/svn_custom.conf /etc/httpd/conf/userdata/ssl/2_4/user/www.userdom.co.uk/svn_custom.conf 3. Incorporating the custom configuration into your httpd.conf #TEST the custom configuration before you commit it! /scripts/verify_vhost_includes #Assuming all is well... commit the svn_custom.conf and restart the apache server: /scripts/ensure_vhost_includes --user=[user] /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf /scripts/restartsrv_httpd 4. Checkout your code using the new https url ... and that's about it... Just to note this approach is useful if you have nginx handling your standard/port80 web traffic and apache for any secure/port443 traffic. I was finding that I was getting bursts of activity from the server via port 80 following by 504 gateway timeout errors so this helped fix access.
contink Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 This is a work in progress but just to update with what I've learned so far with EasyApache4 on WHM/Cpanel cd /home/downloads/svn wget http://subversion.tigris.org/downloads/subversion-1.9.7.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.9.7.tar.gz cd subversion-1.9.7 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apr=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apu-1-config make clean make make install Bound to be some gotcha's in this that I haven't found yet but as with anything perhaps this will provide someone else with a clue to figure out the solution to the next problem (assuming there is one)
YogiCoder Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Can someone please help me to understand where the path comes from? ./configure --with-apr=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apu-1-config On my system I am unable to locate apr-1-config. I am using WHM 68 version with Cent OS 7. cd /home/downloads/svn wget http://subversion.tigris.org/downloads/subversion-1.9.7.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.9.7.tar.gz cd subversion-1.9.7 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apr=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apu-1-config make clean make make install Bound to be some gotcha's in this that I haven't found yet but as with anything perhaps this will provide someone else with a clue to figure out the solution to the next problem (assuming there is one)
contink Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 Can someone please help me to understand where the path comes from? ./configure --with-apr=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/opt/cpanel/ea-apr15/bin/apu-1-config On my system I am unable to locate apr-1-config. I am using WHM 68 version with Cent OS 7. Unfortunately I realised late on that the directory above was created from the legacy EA4 Apache installation prior to conversion to Cloudlinux. I believe you can still use EA4 to create an Apache installation with the appropriate version of PHP and you'll need to ensure you install the appropriate modules... From that it's then a case of using "locate" in shell to figure out where the apr-1-config and apu-1-config are and go from there.
contink Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 Bringing this back up to speed... cd /home/downloads/svn wget https://archive.apache.org/dist/subversion/subversion-1.10.0.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.10.0.tar.gz cd subversion-1.10.0 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/usr/bin/apu-1-config make clean make make install Note: You will hit errors if you haven't already installed LZ4 and utf8proc so chances are the configure command line may need look more like this: ./configure --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/usr/bin/apu-1-config --with-lz4=internal --with-utf8proc=internal Personally we just installed lz4 binary and devel packages using YUM and then used the internal ref for utf8proc yum install lz4 lz4-devel so... our final code looked more like this. cd /home/downloads/svn wget https://archive.apache.org/dist/subversion/subversion-1.10.0.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.10.0.tar.gz cd subversion-1.10.0 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/usr/bin/apu-1-config --with-utf8proc=internal make clean make make install
contink Posted June 6, 2018 Author Posted June 6, 2018 Couple of additional points to address as the 1.10.0 installation created a few new problems for my particular install. 1. Thanks to Louidvdw for sharing the permissions point here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/nix/26101-subversion-whm-cpanel-11-a-2.html#post743185 2. You may hit a slew of "Forbidden" access errors which are likely to be picked up on in your apache error log In my case the issues were caused by a poorly edited svnaccess file (ie: the file with all the repos group associations, permissions, etc...) It seems that SVN now sanity checks this file and applies strict rules to the file, resulting in forbidden errors until you fix them. So, things to look out for: - "Section appears more than once in the authz file [foo]" Fix: Check for [foo] in your access file and remove any duplicates - "Access entry refers to undefined group '@bar'" Fix: Look under your [groups] section and look for any groups that have no members assigned (eg: bar = ). You can either assign a default user (eg: root) or remove the group and any permissions assigned to that group under the relevant repositories.
contink Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 That time again so a quick update as EasyApache4 made a few changes. cd /home/downloads/svn wget https://archive.apache.org/dist/subversion/subversion-1.1.0.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.10.0.tar.gz cd subversion-1.10.0 sh get-deps.sh ./configure --with-apr=/home/cpeasyapache/src/httpd-2.4/srclib/apr/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/home/cpeasyapache/src/httpd-2.4/srclib/apr-util/apu-1-config --with-utf8proc=internal make clean make make install
contink Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 Version 1.14.2 (on a new server) cd /home/downloads/svn wget https://dlcdn.apache.org/subversion/subversion-1.14.2.tar.gz tar xfvz subversion-1.14.2.tar.gz cd subversion-1.14.2 sh get-deps.sh yum install apr-devel yum install apr-util-devel yum install lz4 lz4-devel ./configure --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-1-config --with-apr-util=/usr/bin/apu-1-config --with-utf8proc=internal make clean make make install
contink Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 If you're on a new server you'll also need to do the following: yum install httpd-devel ...before you run the ./configure line.
