moggy Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I've been asked to look at these devices. Has anyone got experience of them, pros and cons, suppliers, etc.? TIA
dhicks Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I've been asked to look at these devices. By "Electronic Noticeboards" do you mean digital signage or interactive whiteboard? A quick search of these forums for either term should give good results. Note that both items are generally over-priced for what they are. -- David Hicks 1
moggy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 Thanks guys - just need the right handle!
FragglePete Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Played around with OneLAN system in my last place. Runs a Fedora based system with a web interface to setup the screens. Bit clunky but gives good results once you get your head round it. Used media extenders over Cat5e to get the signal to the screen as it was a bit of a distance back to the unit itself. Did like the Master and Slave concept of it. I had one setup in Flight Planning (used to work with the Army Air Corps at Middle Wallop) which was updated locally by the guy who worked there with latest weather info, runway info, green sheets, etc. Also had it feeding bbc satellite charts and news to the screen as well. Three other OneLAN units based in each of the Squadron crew rooms that updated from the Master in the Flight Planning unit. Worked well. You do have to be prepared to spend time on them though, that was my only criticism. Very easy to put up something that looks.... basic. I was a little fussy with how they look (was a Graphic Designer in my previous life). Attached are some piccies of the installation we had done. HTH Pete 1
Ric_ Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Don't forget to check out the Navaho MediaCats (see eee.navaho.tv ) - Navaho have been very nice to EduGeek and I like their system.
Gatt Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Our school has gone for something called the Life Channel... linky
mullet_man Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Our school has gone for something called the Life Channel... linky We have this, just got it installed during summer. Its expensive, but is pretty good if you don't have someone to keep it updated, as the content is updated by the Life Channel quite often, so its not then showing the same thing over and over.
