[closed] improvement: Misleading message on signup failure

Hi,

 

I'm new here. When I was creating my user account, I put in all my details, pressed "submit" and got a nice warning message that my username could only have letters, numbers and "-_" in it. "That's odd," I thought "it does. maybe it's too long" ... tried several times and got the same error about my username before realising that I had got the CAPTCHA wrong on my first attempt and had forgotten to fill it in at all after that (d'oh!). I set my username back to what I had in the first place and put in the right CAPTCHA... success

 

If it's reasonably easy, it'd be nice if the signup page gave more accurate feedback on why your account couldn't be created. Thanks chaps

I am actually looking at replacing recaptcha but thanks for the feedback

I have tweaked the registration page to help clarify the error message box that informs you of the registration problem. I also removed the red text for the username requirements to make it seem more informative then a response to your submission.
