rh91uk Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Hi all - firstly, I apologise that this is a long shot i was wondering if anyone could help me out...? I have a vista laptop on my domain at school. As probably usual, we have network wide start menu/desktop for the Staff group generally. But, on this vista laptop - it seems to be always constantly loosing its desktop asnd start menu. It's very intermittent! A log off/log on corrects the problem. I am thinking this is a problem with a possible bottleneck in our network (we have Network Diag people coming in Monday coinsidentely- something our LEA provides ) but I was wondering if, maybe there is a vista issue, or if any one knows a fix I can use for this? I would be so so so greatful! Cheers, R
AngryTechnician Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Not an issue we've experienced on any of our Vista domain machines, and we have over 200 of them now. Nothing in the event logs to suggest a cause?
rh91uk Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 Yeah looked through the event logs. Its a tad annoying! May very well be that bottleneck. Thanks for replying!
moiebus Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 It sounds more like power settings causing the connection to drop. We have Vista laptops with redirected desktops etc and had this problem for a while, changing the sleep/hibernate/hard drive timing has stopped it. It also would not show up it event log as the behaviour is 'normal' Worth a look.... 1
rh91uk Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 @ moiebus - this is something I have also considered - but didn't really look into. Cheers dude, I will let you know how I get on!
dhoward_westexetc Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I have had this issue with laptops I have tested Vista on. A first step I always do now when building Vista laptops is I update the wireless card drivers to the very latest ones available. If an Intel card, I always download from the Intel website. As soon as I do that the wireless connects more consistently. Hi all - firstly, I apologise that this is a long shot i was wondering if anyone could help me out...?
