Mr_M_Cox Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 hi, I am just looking at our backups and it seems that I can only have a compression ratio of 1.2:1 not the maximum advertised of 2:1. Has anyone else found this or know a fix thanks all
DMcCoy Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 If it's only 1.2:1 then your data is just not very compressible (if that's a word). I'm only getting around 1.25:1, it was closer to 1.4:1 before I included the files for student mac folders. 1
Mr_M_Cox Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 so basic .doc files for instance can be compressed more than complex mp4's for example?
srochford Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 It's not the complexity, it's the fact it's already been compressed. BMP files will compress; JPG much less so and so on. Word .docx files won't compress as much as .doc (because the .docx format is already a zip archive) 1
tmcd35 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 so basic .doc files for instance can be compressed more than complex mp4's for example? MP4 already contain a huge amount of compression, look at the size of a raw .wav file for comparison. So their is not much left to compress in an MP4. I don't think .doc file include any compression, so their is quite a margin for reducing the file size. 1
