BaccyNet Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Hey all! I was emailed this morning with the bad news that ActiveTalk Academic (a Prometric testing centre) has closed so my training provider cannot book my exam retake. This has completly screwed my plans and also my progression through the course (especially after the Microsoft Pearson thing) Does anyone know of a Prometric centre in Norfolk? Only ones I can find are a bit too far for me (transport anywhere from my very rural location is a bit of an issue:() Anyways just thought I'd share that wonderful bit of news!
Jay Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 James at Sprowston had some plans to make the school a prometric test centre. I've not spoken to him in some time, so am not sure how far along they are, but worth checking. (This is the kind of thing the LA ought to sponser IMO*) Jarrolds used to offer prometric as well, but its been a while since I've been on a course. (unless it was Pearson VUE, not sure exactly which.) J *Will raise tomorrow if I remember, prod me if I forget. I imagine there has to be some sort of LA assisted training fund for school techs.
BaccyNet Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Thanks for that Jay, I did think about asking our school if they would become one but I dont think it would go down too well I agree it would be nice for the LA/school to help out techs that want to increase their knowledge, I've always come up against opposition for it though hence why I have been doing it by myself.
Jay Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 It seems I'm not the first to ask this question. I've been told there is no central training fund outside of specific projects like VLEs, its devolved down to schools as part of the budget. The technical manager at ICT is speaking with the training provider that NCC use to try and arrange a discount for schools though. Apparently its the same training provider that a number of Norfolk schools already use. Can't say the name.
jjflash999 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 All, i'm pleased to announce there is a new testing centre located in Gayton, Norfolk. The company is called System Three Business Solutions. The centre will be accepting candidates for testing within a week of this post. Tests can be scheduled via the Prometric website and directions and other information about the company can be obtained from our website Microsoft Gold Certified IT support, computer systems, network installation, accounts software solutions, Arrow, hardware, norfolk, uk.. Spread the word! Kind regards, Michael Highland (Test Centre Manager) 2
jjflash999 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks for the welcome. I would also like to apologize for submitting a link to a company website without permission from the moderators. Guess I was trying overly hard to be helpful. Kind regards, Michael
BaccyNet Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Hi Michael Great news! You'll get to know me very well in the coming months, I've got a bunch of exams I should have done by now:) I got as far as getting people to agree to being a test centre, guess I dont have to focus on that anymore. Now to find my training books..... Steve:)
BaccyNet Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 Just a quick followup on this: I would like to publicly thank S3BS for everything yesterday with my exam (70-291, passed with 857) Even when Prometric's software took a dislike to me before I got there:D they did their upmost to make me feel at home, which actually took my mind off the exam thus making me less nervous before I actually sat it. If anyone on here is thinking of taking an exam with them, I can highly recommend! Just my 2 cents (and no I dont work for them:))
BaccyNet Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Sorry to drag this up yet again but I'm in the same situation as I was. S3BS are no longer a test centre since their move to new premises:( Anyone know of an alternative over here in Norfolk? I'm starting to get the feeling that this distance learning thing isn't all its cracked up to be!!
plexer Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Thats a shame strange they've decided not to be a test centre when their new premises look even better. I used to live about 3 houses down the road from the old court house when growing up. Ben
plexer Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Just looked at the prometric site and specifically http://www.prometric.com/NR/rdonlyres/ehspsf4qigzfxayqk6kcysu2wjjpiu2ckxfk5cf7xhuasawsqw4h6lwnfydaaktqbsdhm3k5r6uvtf3y2tiqdymi37g/AcademicPrometricITTestCenterInformation.pdf which deals with applying to become a test centre which academic instituitions can do for free by the sounds of it. The main drawback however is that the centre administrator cannot be a person who holds any IT qualifications or someone who is pursing an IT qualification course. Ben
