I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences regarding remote application deployment in an edu environment. What solutions have worked best for you?

Thanks,

Leo

Just using Group Policy at my place. If the installer doesnt have a decent MSI,or it doesnt like being MSI'd I create a custom EXE file with AutoIT to automate the mouseclicks, serial entering etc then log on to machines as admin manually and run the custom exe across a classroom using Vision classroom management.

£$%*&$ spammer!

Anyway..

As with CJWhite - also looked at SMS / SCCM 2007 but never got the hang of it

With AutoIT i aslso Download Scite4AutoIT which allows you to record an installation very easily :)

I use group policies for the progs that have MSI scripts. If there is'nt one with the program I create one using Winistall le 2003. (Works 90% of the time!!)

If I want to edit the MSI to, for example stop it putting a shortcut on the desktop then I edit it using Orca,

Cheers

Can you provide a reference that explains how to use it that way... I wasn't aware of that functionality.

We don't have applications on clients anymore. We have them located on a share. We use thinapp by vmware for this. You can use a streaming product if required to control bandwidth
