Fireworks MX Memory

Hi,

Installed fireworks on a suite last week.

We found that on 1 machine, and on the teacher machine, fireworks won't load due to low memory. Nothing else is open, and the pc's have 2gb Ram.

Any ideas?

Fireworks does seem to eat memory for fun... although I have used it on a XP workstation with 512MB RAM before.

 

What OS are you running and do you have any other apps/services running that might be eating RAM?

Is there any difference in the build of the PCs which could be a virtual memory diff or so?

 

Does it work under a difference user account?

Not sure if this is relevant but we had a similar problem with Director Player (something to do with shockwave animations on some science software). It had an issue detecting the page file size if it was too big, especially if the machine has 1Gb or more RAM.

 

The solution was to set a custom page file size. Set the INITIAL size to a low value such as 384Mb (I think this can be anything below 1Gb to solve the problem) and set the upper limit to be high enogh for your needs. Director was happy with this, maybe Fireworks has a similar problem. Could be worth a try.

I know I had a problem with Flash MX and my tablet device - Flash would simply crash a little while after starting. The solution was to kill the wintab32 process. Might be something similar if this is a teacher's machine with an IWB installed?

We use Fireworks on machines with 512 meg. There a little slow but not that bad.

OK, finally been able to get in the room after Ofsted visit etc.

Its not a memory issue, its the message attached.

I've given everyone full control over the Macromedia folder in HKEY Local Machine but its still the same.
