Anyone else come across this open source piece of animation software?

Our technology technician has just asked if we can install it on the computers in technology. I've never come across it before so anyone know of any problems with it?

Its GUI is complicated to say the least but it is open source, commonly used and can be easily put onto a machine by simply copying the files onto the hard drive. You may need to set its render directory to a witeable area for the limited users though.

Installed it locally on my workstation, looks good initially but is rather complex in it's use. Is the technology technician up to speed with delivering it, if so then there should be no problems as far as i can see just package up deploy and test, proof of the pudding and all that.

I've never come across it before so anyone know of any problems with it?

 

I had some pupils who were very keen on it at the last place I worked. We got the package installed on all the PCs, and I wanted to try and get a distributed rendering farm going but never quite got round to it. Damn good idea, though.

I've just installed Blender but it came up with Python dependencies. So when you install put in the latest 2.x version (NOT the 3.x) version to make it work

There's a mass of resources out on the net that help you come to grips with it, we've had it site wide for IT courses here for a little while now and although only the kids who are really interested in 'going for gold' are using it, they're all very happy with...

 

There's also Big Buck Bunny which is a blender project... as well as Yo Frankie!
