New laptop or old install?

Hi.

For the past 2 years ive been using my own personal laptop, which i never used a home anyway, as my 'work' laptop.

First thing i did was put another gig of memory in it and install vista/office 2k7.

Now, im finding that its chuggling along as of late and i have three options as to what to do with it:

1- Buy a new laptop.

2- Keep it, and install XP on it.

3- Keep it, and reinstall vista.

 

Specs:

Pentium-M 2.0Ghz Yonah.

2Gb DDR2 667.

100Gb 5400rpm HDD.

ATI X600 128Mb

Intel HD Audio

Intel A/B/G WiFi

Bluetooth

Fingerprint reader.

1650x1050 screen.

Yes, get work to pay for a new one.

 

I end up using my own equipment for work and it annoys the hell out of me.

 

Decent laptops are cheap as chips so go have a word with the Business Manager.

Problem is, im quite picky about my laptops, so if i did get a new'en, it'd have to match my existing in every area, and be dual core.

And those ones would cost +£150 over what the school normally pays for a laptop.

So i'd be probably be having to buy one myself....

But it's for "Technical use", you need to be able to run VMware / Xen / Virtual machine on it to be able to test installs etc, on images, whereas teachers and other staff only need to be able to use Office products.

 

You NEED a more more powerful machine.

More RAM, bigger hard disk, Serial ports (to plug into switches etc).

It also needs to be smaller than other users machines, because you wander the site more than any other person.

 

I'm sure you can justify it.
