Ok, so we are gonna get some macs.

Anyway, what software (pref free!) should I install for curriculum ICT (KS3,4 and 5) and general purpose stuff?

I have already found out (off the top of my head):

Free

Cmap

Firefox

VLC

RDC

Paid

MS Office X

Macromedia Studio MX

iLife

Clunky on a mac with x11 and we already have MS Office X

I'm thinking of somthing I haven;t thought about ;-)

iStopMotion

Audacity

XDrawChem

iWorks (Pages is reaaaly nice and Keynote 2 rules!)

Evolution

Bryce (and DAZ studio)

MozoDojo

FilemakerPro

and not forgetting Automator ...

This is all I can think of right now, but if you speak to David Anstead (Head of Mill Hill School, Ripley) he can tell you everything they use in the curriculum.

Hold on a minute, iLife comes free with all new macs. Check you haven't been duped into paying for it!

All depends on whether you have old Macs and want to upgrade to iLife '05

If you have flowol for PC, you can get a mac version as well. You might be able to install it under your current license.

Thanks for all of the suggestions - i have played with a lot of them and i will investigate the rest fully soon but they have already turned up sone interesting software :-)

Thanks geof for the oo.org alternative - very much appreciated especially as, looking back, my reponse seemed less than polite (apols - not intentended). I have downloaded it and will play very soon.

keep 'em coming if you think of any more.
