maximum workstations per printer

We have an ICT suite with 30 machines. We're possibly going to be replacing the two laser printers within that class with a single new one. The old ones are rated at 17 and 21 ppm, with the new one being 28ppm.

 

I'm simply curious to know what other schools use to handle their printing demands.

If nothing else I'd put in a cheap mono printer that can act as a failover if the original one fails... or look at a relatively inexpensive mono printer and making that the default with the other (presumably a colour laser?) as an option.

 

There's plenty of discussion on how to limit printing with pykota (sp?), credit systems, etc.. but one printer to 30 PC's may be asking for trouble.

We already have printer limits in place, so that's not an issue. We usually split the classroom up so that half the machines print to one printer, etc.

 

We have two printers earmarked for the room, so I think I'll put them both in there. All I need now is the time....

Simple Brother HL-5250DN.

 

No complex buttons or screens for them to mess about with. It also does Duplex saving on paper. High yield toner cartridges lasting 7000 pages (rated) cost £38 so its about the cheapest in class to run too.

 

We have over 70 of them and there more reliable then the teachers themselves.

Anything Electrical is usually more reliable than a teacher, and they come with a warranty and don't object when they are deemed as surplace to requirements

Funnily enough, it's two Brother 5250DN printers that will be put in the room!

 

What's the speed like with duplex printing?

Duplex printing about halves the print rate so you will probably see about 12ppm in real world printing.

 

Which is still quick enough for the little darlings.
