DanH Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Hi guys, ive been looking at xibo too. its absolutely PERFECT for me except. you can only import 2mb files :/ which is almost unusable does anybody know of any 'free' (or near-as) alternatives. Powerpoint is my next stop, but it wont do RSS inside the slide, which is a shame. Currently just looping mpg movies through VLC, fullscreen. Not the best but was easy to start off with.
IrritableTech Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, ive been looking at xibo too. its absolutely PERFECT for me except. you can only import 2mb files :/ which is almost unusable Not used it myself but could that be a php file size limitation, rather than an xibo limit? plexer Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Not according to this screenshot: http://xibo.org.uk/manual/content/content/Xibo%20Documentation_html_m40eda24e.png 32M there, probably a php/mysql limit. Ben
localzuk Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 2mb is a PHP limit. You can set the memory and upload filesize limits in the PHP.ini file.
hillcrest Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 The 2Mb limit threw me for a minute, until I realised it was a PHP restriction. Just change PHP.ini and off you go... On a vaguely related note, does anyone know of a way to embed Powerpoint presentations without the scrollbar down the right hand side? Getting this issue in Xibo and also when I've tried embedding with PHP myself. If any signage system is going to work, it will have to be something our teachers can make content for and that means Powerpoint. I know it can be converted to a more web friendly format, but the direct playing of ppt files would be the icing on the cake for usability here!
DanH Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 *facepalm* thanks guys. - making the ppt page size smaller than the area your importing it to?
alexharrington Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Hi Dan That's a limit of your PHP install. I have 1GB odd HD video running over Xibo Best place to put questions that are Xibo specific is the Launchpad Answers section for the project: https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo Cheers Alex
alexharrington Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 PPT minus scrollbar is just a setting in Powerpoint. There's instructions here: https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+question/64797 Cheers Alex
plexer Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 All I can say is that this was easy to setup. Ubuntu 8.10 server under esxi and a laptop running xp to show the client on a whiteboard all took about 4 horus from start to finish. Excellent work and I look forward to seeing this mature even more. Ben 1
zag Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Excellent stuff, another open source solution to a real world problem
AlexB Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks Alex, looks very good from the manual, any plans to allow a live video Stream in to it at all? John I have it up and running with a sky news stream in the corner
