googlemad Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 We have a suite of machines that a previous technician was setting up before they suddenly left. Anyway they designed a cracking XP wallpaper, only problem is they didn't seem to save the JPG anywhere and it just seems to be 'cached' by Windows in some wacky manner. Is there any way to grab the cached wallpaper and save it back into a JPG file?
Michael Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 This should work (in theory). Open up Task Manager and kill explorer.exe. All the desktop icons will disappear. Now press Print Screen on your keyboard. From Task Manager, click File > New Task (Run...) and type explorer.exe Now open up MS Paint or any image application and choose Edit > Paste.
Arthur Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 You will probably find it in "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" as a .bmp.
tech_guy Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Or maybe found C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper Yeah, Pooley's right I reckon. It's where we stuff ours.
googlemad Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 Fantastic. They had stored it on the secondary partition as a hidden file. No wonder I couldn't find it!!!
