Version 4 of Audacity has arrived! Our team are delighted to announce a major update — and makeover — for the world's most popular audio editing desktop app.

Here's what's new:

► A raft of updates to clip editing, including to envelopes, splits and samples. All designed for a more intuitive workflow.

► Updates to effects and effects plugins

► More ways to label your clips and shortcuts to edit projects faster.

► New workspaces for organizing and categorizing your audio projects

► A new-look updated modern UI. It's optional: the classic Audacity look is still available if you prefer it!

► Core under the hood updates that lay the foundations for future improvements to the app

Thanks so much to the Audacity team and the open source community who have helped improve the app over the years.

And a very special thanks to Martin Keary (Tantacrul) who guided Audacity 4 development for many years, and has further supported this release with video editing. Subscribe to his excellent channel: yt_favicon_ringo2.png tantacrul

FYI v4 will install alongside v3 as a separate application. There are quite a lot of changes, so being able to retain v3 alongside is handy.

V3 is an EXE installer but V4 comes as an MSI now.

I'm currently deploying FFMpeg alongside V3 in order to enable MP3 exports. IDK if that's still required for V4 or not.
