Snipe-IT Locations

Hello, just started using Snipe-IT. The 'locations' are confusing.

 

• Default Location - Where it is when not checked out
• Location - Where it is once checked out

 

so what do you do when it's just an IT room computer (will never be checked out)? If you move the asset to a new room you can edit the asset and change the 'Default Location', but you can not edit the 'Location'. The bulk import template also only has a 'Location' column...I must be missing something here..

Check out to the IT room location.

Default location could be - IT Services (Where it would come back to if needed a repair)

Default Location is where the device should live when its NOT checked out, great for something like a laptop where it lives in a trolley but staff might borrow it over a weekend. 

This is also where the location will be set to by default when checked back in & where i would put a fixed desktop. 

The API reference says "The id that corresponds to the location where the asset is usually located when not checked out"

 

the "Location" is where the device is now, or otherwise the "checked out" location

its designed more for multi site companies, IE You have a HQ and the Steve at a remote office has been given a laptop, so you check it out to Steve and it sets the location to Steves office

Thanks, maybe as we are single site we set the Location as 'School' for everything and just change Default Location for specific rooms. Anything checked out will be to a User anyway. If this is a good idea I feel bulk importing assets will get confusing as the Location column in the .csv updates both Location and Default Location...

The location is good so you can see items attached to a room.

Select the room - See the IWB, Computers, Monitors etc.

 

IWB checked out to each room etc.

 

Leave the default location as school or blank?

hello, a slightly different subject can anyone recommend an iOS app for Snipe-IT, we tried Snipe Mate, but it didn't show custome fields. Snipe Scanner does not allow editing.

 

Any good ones that allow viewing everything including custom fields, editing and barcode scanning?
